How to make your dream holiday a success - Into the mountains with pumps? Not with my packing list.

Off the sofa, out of the home office and away with the gloom of the last few months. This summer will be very different to previous years. Due to the pandemic, many of us are spending our holidays in Germany and our own health is more important than ever. Do you want to do something for your body and soul? Then an active holiday in the mountains or by the sea is the perfect alternative to a relaxing beach holiday. Whether by bike or on foot: recharge your batteries and enjoy Germany's most beautiful regions. So that you don't fall into packing chaos and still have to take your pumps up the mountain, I would like to chat to you about valuable tips and a packing list for your next active holiday.

Short "feel-good fact": Sufficient exercise is an important building block for a life of health and well-being. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week for adults.* Exercise counteracts illness, boosts the metabolism and releases happiness hormones in the body. On the other hand, a lack of exercise can have negative consequences for your health. There is a risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity or back and joint problems. We spend most of the day sitting down: in the car or on the train, at our desk and on the couch in the evening, which is why an active holiday is a great idea right now, isn't it?

So you're not just lounging by the hotel pool...

Fresh, healthy air and the beautiful natural surroundings are an invitation to get moving. Free yourself from the stress of everyday life and feel how movement gives your body new strength. I'll share a few tips with you on how to make your holiday a special and healthy experience:

#1: Actively explore the surroundings

Take in the surroundings on a morning run or a long walk. A run through a rustic forest, a town or along a lake not only rewards you with a view of breathtaking landscapes, but also gives you the opportunity to discover the surroundings in depth.

#2: Try out the exercise programme

Many hotels and holiday resorts already offer various activities, such as tennis, yoga, aqua fitness or walking. Why not try something new and take part in different programmes?

#3: Don't forget to have fun

The most important thing is to have fun! We often focus too much on exercise and health. Find activities that are fun and make your holiday a special experience.

#4: Enjoy rest and relaxation

Despite an active holiday, you should listen to your body and allow yourself to relax. I think the right mix of exercise and wellness for maximum relaxation is the key.

I pack my suitcase and take ...

As we never need half of the items anyway and most of our active holidays take place in the great outdoors, it's not that easy to pack the right clothes. I've put together a packing list to help you remember everything you need for your active holiday in addition to your usual luggage.

Packing list

"I'm packing my suitcase and taking ..."

  • Hiking boots/ sturdy shoes
  • Hiking socks
  • Comfortable, breathable clothing
  • A small carrier rucksack
  • Long and short sports trousers
  • Wind and rain jacket
  • Cycling helmet
  • A water bottle
  • Swimsuit
  • Sun protection (headgear, sunglasses, sun cream)
  • Muesli or protein bars
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Blister plasters (just in case :) )
  • Powerbank

Now you are well prepared for your time out. And believe me, even after the hike up the mountain, you won't want to wear pumps and lots of frills - the main thing is to be comfortable. I wish you lots of fun and an unforgettable holiday!
