The Bergmayr - Chiemgau Alpine Hotel - Experience Inzell: Summer holidays with children in the mountains

Summertime is family time - get out of the daily grind and into adventure! If you're looking for a spontaneous destination that will delight young and old alike, I have a tip: Inzell - a beautiful spa town in the centre of Bavaria.

Surrounded by mountains, green meadows and crystal-clear lakes, Inzell is perfect for relaxing days, but also for those who like to be active. Whether romping around, splashing about, hiking or simply breathing in the fresh mountain air - there really is something for everyone here. There are adventure trails, rustic alpine pastures and plenty of leisure activities to keep you from getting bored.

And if you're looking for a place to relax after all your adventures, then Das Bergmayr - Chiemgau Alpenhotel Inzell is just the place for you. Our family rooms offer little explorers and big connoisseurs plenty of space to feel at home. And after a day full of adventure, a dip in the hotel pool is just the thing.

By the way: Inzell is also known as the "gateway to Berchtesgadener Land". Thanks to the "Zwing" mountain range, you'll be in the middle of a natural paradise in no time at all - perfect for anyone who loves being outdoors with the kids.

Curious about what awaits you here? Here are my favourite family tips for Inzell and the surrounding area.

Frillensee mountain forest adventure trail - Adventurous hike with children

The adventure trail starts at Forsthaus Adlgaß. Simply follow the fire salamander symbol and discover eleven exciting stations: Listen to the sounds of nature, compete in a long jump with forest animals or walk barefoot over moss and gravel. After around two hours, you will reach the idyllic Frillensee - a wonderful place for a picnic in the middle of nature.

Fun fact: Lake Frillensee is considered the coldest lake in Germany and often freezes over as early as October.

Natural swimming lake in the Inzell bathing park - Pure refreshment on your summer holiday

On hot days, there's nothing better than the natural swimming lake in the Inzell bathing park: crystal-clear mountain water, beautiful sunbathing lawns and the Alps in the background make for the perfect swimming experience. The lake is just a few minutes' walk from our hotel Das Bergmayr - ideal for a spontaneous dip in the cool water.

Soccerpark Inzell - Football golf for young and old ball artists

Do you know football golf? This cool combination of football and mini golf provides plenty of action and fun. The aim is to get the ball over obstacles and hills into the hole with as few shots as possible - great fun for families who want to make their holiday sporty.

Inzell bog adventure trail - Exciting family excursion through the moor

An absolute highlight for children is the barrier-free moor adventure trail, which leads through the Inzell moor on wooden walkways - perfect for pushchairs too. From the Schwarzberg car park, you set off on a circular trail with an observation tower and 27 interactive stations where little explorers can try out for themselves how much water the moorland soil stores or how peat is cut. After around 1.5 hours, you return to the starting point full of enthusiasm.

Hochlenzer summer toboggan run - Tobogganing fun on a family holiday in Bavaria

Tobogganing without snow? No problem on the summer toboggan run on the Hochlenzer! Over 600 metres long, it's a rapid descent down the slope - great fun for children (accompanied from the age of 3) and adults. For younger guests, there is also a toddler cart track and a playground next door at Gasthof Hochlenzer.

National Park Centre "House of the Mountains" - Excursion for all weathers

The "Haus der Berge" National Park Centre in Berchtesgaden is an exciting destination, come rain or shine. The award-winning "Vertical Wilderness" exhibition explains the alpine flora and fauna to children and adults in an interactive way. There's also a cinema, changing exhibitions and a panoramic trail that takes you through the forest, water, alpine pasture and rock habitats.

Thorau Almen - Hiking with children & experiencing animals up close

In Berchtesgadener Land, there are many child-friendly mountain pastures that are easy to hike to and offer exciting encounters with goats, cows and rabbits - perfect for little nature explorers. The hike to the Thorau Almen is particularly worthwhile, where you might even be lucky enough to spot marmots!

Hochfelln cable car - Family outing with a panoramic view of the Alps
